Dr. Ann Smolin

Welcome to Dr. Ann Smolin's Website

People typically come to see me because they are either in crisis or they desire to have a greater understanding of themselves. During a crisis, you may suffer from depressed mood, hopelessness, anxiety/panic, and irritability. These symptoms can also be informative - a signal to address things in your life and yourself, likely things you have known about for a while, but have been avoiding. Ironically, avoidance of unpleasant emotions, as well as avoiding things we know in our hearts, often creates more suffering rather than providing a reprieve.  Part of our work will be learning to sit with what we have been avoiding.

We may examine the things that brought you to this place in your life: your family and personal history, current stressors, cultural and societal factors, and strategies that have ultimately not proven helpful.  We will also explore what it is that you want in your life and who you really want to be, especially those things that have been elusive, that somehow haven't come to be.  My job is to guide you in this journey, in an atmosphere of support, empathy, non-judgement and respect. I am constantly humbled and honored to be able to share in this process with the people who come to see me.
